But, contrary to what we think or believe, they are not. Those things are only what we saw, read or heard on media. In real life, they are not different from any other common man. They also battle with their own life on many issues like anyone of us. In fact, there are many with several dark secrets in their life that most of us are unaware of.
Yes, like many, there are several celebrities who are involved in drug, alcohol or other addiction. Perhaps you will be surprised to know that there are some who got so much into such addictions that they had to go to rehabilitation centers for detoxification. In this post, we take a read about some of such celebrities who have stories about being the victim of drug addiction or alcoholism.
1. Sanjay Dutt
Sanjay Dutt is said to have been suffering from substance abuse for several years. This is what he had to share about his memory of being in rehab. He said, “My journey with substance abuse has been about 12 years. There are no drugs in the world that I have not done. When my father took me to America (for rehab), they gave me a list (of drugs) and I ticked every drug on it, because I had taken all of them. The doctor told my dad, ‘What kind of food do you eat in India? Going by the drugs he did, he should be dead by now!”
2. Ranbir Kapoor
There were reports in 2015 that actor Ranbir Kapoor was attending some therapeutic non-smoking sessions at the Original FX Mayr Health Center in Austria. It is said that Ranbir started attending the sessions there on the insistence of Katrina.
3. Fardeen Khan
Fardeen Khan’s drug addiction came into limelight when he was arrested in 2001 with cocaine in the Juhu area of Mumbai. He had to fight a long legal battle because of that. But more than that, he had to fight his own addiction. In 2008, he became the first Bollywood star who was sent to a detox programme. He was given two choices by the Mumbai court- to attend a jail sentence for six months or go for drug rehabilitation. Fardeen chose to go for drug detoxification programme.
4. Rahul Mahajan
Rahul Mahajan’s drug addiction isn’t a hidden case. He had to underwent urgent medical help for cocaine overdose, post a month of his father’s death. He was the son of former Union Minister Pramod Mahajan.
5. Vijay Raaz
The Kauwa Biryani comedian from the movie ‘Run’ has yet manifested his acting skills in several movies. He started his career in the Mumbai film industry with small roles in films. He has done some memorable roles in the movies like ‘Jungle’, Mira Nair’s ‘Bhopal Express’ and ‘Monsoon Weddings’ and slowly he started getting some good leading roles. He also played the roles in ‘Delhi Belly’ in 2004. However, shockingly, he was arrested in Dubai airport for possession of drugs in 2005.
6. Prateik Babbar
Prateik Babbar chose to share the story of his battle against drug addiction recently. The actor told Mumbai Mirror: “Substance abuse is like a bad marriage, even after you quit, it haunts you for a while till people start noticing the turnaround.”
He added: “Getting out of bed was almost impossible; nausea greeted me each morning, my body ached and I oscillated between hot and cold every few minutes. At that point, I didn’t even have a drug of choice, I took whatever I could lay my hands on.”
7. Yo Yo Honey Singh
Remember the news of the sudden disappearance of Yo Yo Honey Singh in 2017? There were rumors that he was in rehab during that time because of the drug overdose detoxification. The singer later revealed in an interview that the months that he had been away were the darkest months of his life. Yes, he has been to rehab, and when he came back sober after proper medication, he let it out in public saying “I must confess that I was bipolar and an alcoholic.”
8. Geetanjali Nagpal
Geetanjali Nagpal is a former Model who went to the extremes of drug addiction. The lady once walked down the ramp with some big names. However, falling helplessly in her addiction, she did everything from spending nights with men to working as a maid to buy drugs.
9. Kapil Sharma
Kapil Sharma has attended an anti-toxification treatment at an ayurvedic center. The treatment that was supposed to last for 40 days was cut-short by him in just 12 days. It is said that he was feeling better in just 12 days and so he left early.
