There are many actors who are not into Bollywood, the bigger entertainment industry in India, and not as popular as those in it, but earn hefty amount, with many getting more than those in Bollywood. Here are some of them.
1. Mishal Raheja
Mishal Raheja was born in Mumbai. He debuted as an actor in 2005 on a show by MTV called ‘Pyaar Vyar and All That’. Mishal’s role as Datta Bhau in ‘Laagi Tujhse Lagan’ has gained him nation-wide recognition. He also played the role of a cop in an episodic ‘Encounter’ on Sony. In 2014, he starred in an MTV movie called ‘Shaadi Vaadi And All that’. All this earned him a huge number of followers, giving him enough confidence to demand Rs. 1.6 lakh an episode. Mishal is currently playing the character of Viplav in ‘Ishq Ka Rang Safed’.
2. Ankita Lokhande
Ankita Lokhande may seem to have disappeared from the TV scene, but the beautiful lady has done some really notable work. Her performance in ‘Pavitra Rishta’ as Archana Deshmukh was loved by many and it is this role that helped her become the established actress that she is today. Ankita quotes between Rs. 90,000 to 1.5 lakh for one episode.
3. Ronit Roy
Ronit Roy was born in Nagpur and brought up in Ahmedabad. Not many people know this, but Ronit first appeared on the big screen whose all movies that he featured in turned out to be flops. He eventually paved his way through soaps on Indian TV and it worked. He is best known for his character in ‘Kasautii Zindagi Kay’ as Rishabh Bajaj and ‘Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi’ as Mihir Virani. Ronit earns Rs. 1.25 lakhs per episode.
4. Hina Khan
Hina Khan was born and brought up in Srinagar, Kashmir. She initially came to Mumbai to pursue her dream of becoming an air hostess. However, destiny had other plans for her. Today, she rules the hearts of many households through her portrayal of the iconic character of Akshara in ‘Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai’. She is also famed for being listed in the “Top 50 Sexiest Asian Women” in 2013-14. Hina earns Rs. 1 lakh to 1.25 lakhs per episode.
5. Ram Kapoor
Hailing from Nainital, Ram Kapoor stumbled upon acting while in the process of enrolling into UCLA to study film-making but instead joined a Stanislavski-based acting academy in Los Angeles. And he is one of the most influential Indian television actors today.
While Kapoor has been greatly lauded for his work in shows like ‘Ghar Ek Mandir’, ‘Rishtey’, and ‘Kasamh Se’, he received maximum attention and fame for his role in ‘Bade Ache Lagte Hain’. He has also broken many barriers in Indian television by being the first person to lock lips with his co-star Sakshi Tanwar. Ram Kapoor was also seen in a couple of Bollywood movies, with ‘Baar Baar Dekho’ being the latest flick. He gets a mighty Rs. 1.25 Lakh per episode.
6. Shivaji Satam
Shivaji Satam is the man you know him as ACP Pradyuman, from one of the longest-running shows on Indian television, C.I.D. The acting was not Satam’s first career choice. Before taking to acting, he works as a cashier at Central Bank of India. He made his screen debut in 1980 in the popular TV series ‘Rishte-Naate’. Satam is paid Rs. 1 lakh per episode.
7. Divyanka Tripathi
Hailing from Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, Divyanka rose to fame by playing a dual role in ‘Banoo Main Teri Dulhann’ for which she also won the Indian Television Academy award for Best Actress in the drama category. She has acted in roughly 14 serials but the one that catapulted her into the spotlight was ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’, for her portrayal of Dr. Ishita.
Divyanka participated in Pantene Zee Teen Queen in 2003 and won the title of Miss Beautiful Skin. She has also crowned Miss Bhopal in 2005. Currently, she earns anywhere between Rs. 80,000 to 1 lakh for one episode.
8. Karan Patel
Karan Patel started his career with ‘Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki’ in 2000. He has been highly praised for his role as Raman Kumar Bhalla in ‘Yeh Hai Mohabbatein’. He garnered quite a few awards including the Best Actor at Zee Gold Awards (2014-16), Best Romantic Actor at the Indian Television Academy Award (2015), and Best Actor again at the Indian Telly Awards. He demands Rs. 1 lakh for each episode.
9. Mohit Raina
Mohit Raina grew up in Jammu and came to Mumbai with the intention of becoming a model. He started his acting career with a science fiction TV show called ‘Antariksh’. He is famous for his roles as Shiva in ‘Devon Ke Dev – Mahadev and the grown-up version of Ashok Samrat in ‘Asoka’. Raina has even acted in a movie called Don Muthu Swami which featured Mithun Chakraborty. At present, Raina demands about a lakh per episode.
10. Sakshi Tanwar
Sakshi began her career as an anchor on Doordarshan and later gained immense popularity for her portrayal of Parvati Aggarwal in ‘Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki’. She went on to doing several TV shows after that including ‘Balika Vadhu’ and ‘Crime Patrol’. She also starred opposite Ram Kapoor in ‘Bade Ache Lagte Hain’, which was the turning point of her career. Recently, she’s been appreciated for playing the role of Aamir Khan’s wife in ‘Dangal’.
Sakshi has won several awards including the Indian Telly Award (Best Actress), Star Guild Awards (Best Actress), Star Parivaar Award (Favorite Bhabhi), and ITA Award (Best Actress). She earns about Rs. 80,000 for a single episode.
