Legendary actress Sridevi posthumously won a National Film Award for her role in the movie ‘Mom’. In a career spanning over four decades, Sridevi acted in several hit movies like ‘Mr. India’, ‘Chandni’, ‘Naagin’, ‘Sadma’ etc. She took a break from the silver screen and came back almost after 17 years with the movie ‘English Vinglish’.
This is the first ever national award for the actress but many believe that her death may have prompted the jury to award her one. In popular opinion, people believe that she was an iconic actress and had never won a national award while she was alive, the jury awarded her as a tribute after her death.
Many people commented on Twitter that her role in the movie ‘English Vinglish’ and ‘Sadma’ were much better than her role in the movie ‘Mom’.
But I think #NationalFilmAwards should not gt manipulate on sympathy basis.. not sure who, but definitely #Sridevi ji didn’t deserve it for #MOM it could have for #EnglishVinglish but not for #Mom

Oh come on, #Sridevi deserved a #NationalAward for many other movies. Be it Sadma, English Vinglish or any other performance. You give her for #Mom out of sympathy?

No offence or disrespect, but I think we had better names for Best Actress this year other than #Sridevi. #opinion #NationalFilmAwards

#NationalFilmAwards next year if Shekhar Kapur remains head of jury then we can expect Arjun Kapoor to win Best actor award. After all he is playing homage to Kapoor family being their family friend. Awarding Sridevi for homage instead of her performance!!

GORI TU LATH MAAR made me shocked cause he choreographed thousand times better dances for Bollywood☹
SRIDEVI one is very sympathetic and I would love to see her receiving for ENGLISH VINGLISH.

However, in a shocking revelation, Shekhar Kapoor, who was also a very close friend of Sridevi, said that he repeatedly urged the jury members to re-think and re-nominate actresses for the coveted award. He said that every time it was Sridevi’s name which would come on top from a pool of candidates who had done some remarkable work in the industry and have at least a decade more ahead of them.
He questioned if Sridevi really deserved the award or was it given to her because she was no more and as a piece of tribute.
These awards are the most prestigious ones in the entertainment industry. However, like every other award ceremonies, the National Film Awards also come with a fair share of controversies.
