Recently, Tollywood actress Sri Reddy stripped in public on April 7 in protest against ‘casting couch’ in the south Indian film industry. The actress stripped in front of Movie Artistes Association’s office at Filmnagar in Hyderabad to protest against the issue. She had arrived the spot in a traditional Indian outfit and started stripping to her undergarments in front of the cameras.
Sri Reddy has faced some bad consequences of her stripping act. The police booked her under Section 294 of the Indian Penal Code for doing obscene act in a public place. The Movie Artistes Association (MAA) office-bearer Sivaji Raja has said that she cannot be given membership because of her behavior. Meanwhile, according to her recent Facebook post, her landlord has told her to vacate her house in Hyderabad.
Sri Reddy alleged that she has been exploited sexually by many directors and producers. She held that she has also been denied membership of the MAA despited having done three films.
According to a recent report by Jansatta, Sri Reddy has alleged that she has sent her nude pictures and videos to a number of filmmakers of south Indian film industry on their demand. According to Sri, despite receiving her nude pictures, these filmmakers did not fulfill their promise of giving role to her in their films.
According to her, in almost 75 per cent cases, the actresses have to pay a price for getting films in Tollywood. Sharing her story under the #MeToo movement, Sri Reddy claimed that a woman had asked her for sexual favors in exchange of role in a film.
It is interesting to note that she had also raised her voice against casting couch in south Indian film industry at a MAA meet where her fellow actress Rakul Preet Singh had denied the existence of casting couch in Tollywood. At that time, Sri Reddy had slammed Rakul Preet Singh saying that she should speak the truth about casting couch and threatened to expose Telugu filmmakers involved in it.
