In a recent interview, three-time Filmfare Award winner, Tamil/Telugu film actress Samantha Ruth said that she’s stopped getting movie offers ever since she announced her plans of getting married.
Samantha, who is going to marry Nagarjuna’s son, had to say,
The day my marriage plans were announced, the offers dried up. Just like that! I was like… what happened? I am the same actress. I’ve given back-to-back hits throughout the year. My Tamil film 24 and my Telugu films A Aa and Janatha Garage were hits. So why am I suddenly being shunned?
It seems producers are worried that she may drop out of ongoing projects once she’s married, and therefore doesn’t look like a viable investment option anymore.
Samantha went on to say;

…I just need to dispel the Telugu and Tamil cinema’s insecurities about married actresses. I don’t know about others. But I am not going anywhere after marriage.
Although there is uncertainty about my future in the film industry, thankfully there is no uncertainty about my future in his family. Even the endorsement offers I was getting have been curtailed. It’s as though I’ve already left. It’s bizarre.Advertisement
So, let’s get this straight! In a country where 50 year-old men routinely romance 20-something girls (these 50 year-olds retire only when their children make their debut), where known bigamists have been permitted, nay encouraged, to continue acting opposite girls half their age, Samantha Ruth suddenly isn’t a “good enough investment” because she’s getting married? Really?!!
Let’s not forget that the biggest superstar in the South Indian film industry is the almost-70 year-old Rajinikanth. So, it’s obviously not about shelf-life. The Indian film industry is just plain sexist!
