After Anil Kumble’s resignation from the post of Team India’s head coach, there is a lot of speculation taking rounds on the internet about the next head coach. It is being said that it was Sourav Ganguly who chose Anil Kumble over Ravi Shastri last year for the same position. Since Kumble is no more in the race, there are chances for Ravi Shastri to get selected this year. However, it’s Virender Sehwag who can give tough competition to other aspirants.
But, have you ever wondered, why a legend like Sourav Ganguly is not considering to apply for the post of Team India’s head coach?
Well, because he cannot apply!
As quoted in a report published by TOI,
When he’s not busy discussing the Supreme Court-mandated Justice RM Lodha Committee reforms with the general body of the Indian cricket board, he’s part of a committee appointed by that general body studying the very reforms. When he’s not busy attending the Indian Premier League (IPL) governing council meetings, he’s busy running the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). When he’s not busy chairing the BCCI’s technical committee, he’s busy selecting the Indian national team’s new coach. Say hello to the omnipresent Sourav Ganguly – the busiest man in Indian cricket today.
That does not just end there, Sourav Ganguly has all the things in the world related to cricket to do. Whether it’s doing commentary for a broadcaster or presenting expert views on television or attending the MCC World Cricket Committee meeting. The sad part is, many of these roles are not chosen by Ganguly, and the cricketer is not even getting paid for doing them. Still, the cricketer has always shown interest in the duties he has been assigned.
And as far as applying for the position of the Team India’s coach is concerned. Here’s what Sourav Ganguly said on the matter,
I can also apply for the position of India’s coach provided I’m not an administrator.
So, Dada has to leave all the work related to cricket administration if he wishes to become team India’s head coach. Since Sourav Ganguly is the busiest man in the Cricket world today, leaving everything does not seem easy. Dada has taken to the administration of the game like a fish takes to water and getting out of it is way difficult. Therefore, expecting the legendary face of cricket become Team India’s coach will always remain a dream.
