The ace singer, Sonu Nigam, was recently caught in the storm of controversies after he gave his opinion on “forced religiousness”.

There were very few people who appreciated his bold remark, and the majority of Twitterati severely criticized it, calling him “anti muslim”.

One of the major backlashes came from Syed Sha Atef Ali Al Quaderi, Vice President, West Bengal Minority United Council, who was quoted saying,

If anyone can shave his hair, put a garland of old torn shoes around his neck and tour him around the country I personally announce an award of Rs 10 lakh for that person.

He insensitively demanded that Sonu Nigam should be thrown out of the country,

I would have reacted the same way if one had talked ill about the sound of bells coming from a temple as well. If we all become so intolerant about each other’s religions, we will soon have a bunch of atheists in our country. People like Nigam should be driven out of the country.

Sonu Nigam, completely undeterred of this trivial warnings, tweeted this:

Just as promised, he shaved his head, not only for his integrity but also for everyone who believes in religious fundamentalism.

After shaving his head, he told TOI the real reason for this move,

It’s not an agitation, not a challenge that I am throwing someone’s way. I am shaving my head just to show that the person cutting my hair is a Muslim. It’s all about interpreting things the right way. I exhort the media to present it like that and not in a confrontational way.
