Aam Adami Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharati surrendered to the Delhi Police on Wednesday to join the investigation in a case of domestic violence registered against him by his wife.
The former Delhi law minister has been accused by his wife of prolonged domestic violence.
His wife, Lipika, had approached the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) with her complaint on June 10.
She has alleged that she was suffering extreme physical, mental and verbal harassment from Bharati since their marriage in 2010.
Bharti, who had approached the Delhi High Court for anticipatory bail on Tuesday, was given protection against arrest till September 17.
But after a late-night brainstorming session on the issue with party members, he decided to join the investigation.
If Bharti is taken into custody, he will be the fourth AAP MLA to be arrested.
In the last four months, AAP MLAs Jitendra Singh Tomar, Manoj Kumar and Surinder Singh have been arrested by Delhi Police in different cases.
