Rohit Shetty’s Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba is on a record-breaking spree. The movie has received many compliments and love of the audience. The movie has become the highest grosser of 2018. Ranveer and the team are in the celebration mode. However, there is something which has become an issue for the director Rohit Shetty. Recently, Rohit was in conversation with the famous film critic Anupama Chopra. She asked him many questions and one of them was about the ‘rape scene’ in the movie.
Anupama asked Rohit if he feels that the particular scene and the courtroom drama in the movie were only for men and there was nothing much to do for women? Naturally, Rohit was not happy to listen to such criticism and replied aggressively.
Rohit Shetty denied the assumptions made by Anupama Chopra and replied:
“Today, I don’t need an issue like rape to make a film hit. I have proven 13 films, 8 a 100 crore, 2 a 200 crore, this one is going for a 100 crore. I am sitting with 10 blockbusters and I don’t need such a pathetic thing to do, that’s wrong.”
Anupama further asked the Simmba director whether he is able to see where the criticism is coming from, Rohit replied:
“You are one, who is saying about this and 2-3 people who have written about this. Other than that, if this was the case, there are so many women calling, there are so many women writing on Twitter, they are not feeling it like that. I think they are not analyzing it, but are just getting entertained.”
Anupama also questions the way the police encounter was shown in the movie and if Rohit is okay with such a thing.
Rohit said that everything in the movie and the encounter was his point of view and he doesn’t care about what few pseudo-intellectuals would write. Ouch!
It is not new when Rohit is on the receiving end of such criticism but it is with most of the directors and producers who believe that a masala movie is one where the ‘Hero’ is there to save everyone. Have you seen Simmba? What do think about the movie and the particular ‘rape scene’?
