On April 2, an all-India bandh was called by several Dalit organisations against the “dilution” of the SCs/STs (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. During the nationwide bandh, five people were killed in cross-firing in Madhya Pradesh, one each died in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. There were violent protests in Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan. Protests took place at several places in Bihar and Jharkhand also.
In Punjab too, public transport services were crippled. The protests were also witnessed in Rohtak in Haryana as well as in Chandigarh.
During such a protest in Ambala city of Haryana, hundreds of Dalits protesters had blocked a highway when a Nihang Sikh wanted to pass through that route in a car with his wife. When told to return, this Sikh man stopped his car. Suddenly, someone from the crowd started abusing him and this made him furious. He stepped out of his car and raised his voice at the protesters and literally made them fold hands in front of him. He told them that he will not return and that he is not a slave but in fact a free man.
According to the video, the Sikh man is also a former Army man who has served the nation like his own family. Watch a glimpse of all that happened in the video below:
