India and Pakistan have remained the greatest of opponents when it comes to cricket. Generations have witnessed some of the most anticipated Indo-Pak matches ever played in the history of this sport. Most of the times, our players have surpassed them; however, Pakistani players have also proved their mettle time and again. The players from both the teams have expressed their respect and admiration for each other, keeping aside their rivalries on ground.
This time a positive exchange of words was seen between Virat Kohli and Pakistani speedster Shoaib Akhtar. It was Virat who admitted about not having faced Akhtar in any of the matches, lauding his competence and game spirit.
In a chat show titled ‘Breakfast with Champions’, Kohli said:
“I’ve never faced Shoaib Akhtar but I’ve seen him in a game in Dambulla against Pakistan. I got out, (so) I couldn’t face him. But I saw him bowl and he looked very lethal even at the later stages of his career. At that time, I felt (that) batsmen would not have wanted to face him when he was at his peak.”
Reacting to Virat Kohli’s statement, Shoaib Akhtar expressed his thoughts on Twitter. He wrote:
“I was better off not bowling at all when
#Kohli was batting. Jokes apart, he’s a gr8 batsman & bowling against him wud have been a gr8 contest.”

Later at a TV show, Shoaib called it a matter of sheer mutual admiration. He called Kohli a great batsman and an achiever. He also mentioned that over the years he has developed a good relationship with many players of team India.
People on Twitter applauded the wonderful display of sportsman-like respect:
