Shekhar Gupta is a well-known Indian journalist presently holding the position of editor-in-chief of ThePrint. He earlier held the same position in The Indian Express for 19 years. Under his leadership, the media house received Vienna-based International Press Institute’s award three times. He was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2009 for his contribution in the field of journalism by UPA government.
Being an adherent user of social media, many times his comments have landed him in soup. The recent scenario is something similar where he commented on Priyanka Chopra’s Quantico fiasco.
He tweeted an article with the title ‘If Priyanka has to say sorry for showing Hindu terrorism, so should Sunny Deol to Muslims.’ Here’s the tweet:
If Priyanka Chopra has to say sorry for showing Hindu terrorism, so should Sunny Deol to Muslims@Sakshi12Arora writes: https://t.co/xY3g93korZ
— Shekhar Gupta (@ShekharGupta) June 12, 2018
The article basically talks about many popular films by Sunny Deol that shows Muslim extremists. Some of the names are ‘Jaal: The Trap,’ ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy.’
The author further said that the character of Sunny aka the protagonist always played the role of such a person who outsmarted the villains belonging to Islamists. The author believed that the actor should apologize. Shekhar Gupta posted the story showing his appreciation. However, that irked the netizens.
Soon, they started shamming him. While some labeled his publication ‘ThePrint’ as clickbait, others came up with personal attacks. There were also those who demanded an apology from him. Here are the tweets:
Gupta ji , your writers logics gng down day by day , I would request you to watch these two movies mentioned in the article you will realize the death of stupidity of this article।।

@ShekharGupta kitna giroge…There must be some level in hell…what has happened to you?? Vedon me likha hai, “kisi se atyadhik grina, dhire dhire swaym ko smapt kar deti h”. Kass mere pass Rishi Parshuram ki shakti hoti.., teri grina ka ilaj ho jata..
— Ashish Kumar (@oyeashish) June 13, 2018
Even your comment doesn’t make sense from Muslim perspective.. Sunny never portrayed Muslims as terrorist.. He himself married to muslim, went to Pakistan to bring her.. What apology he shud seek from Muslim.. Or u mean to say Pakistan is the only identity of Muslim.. Damaging
— Ashish Kumar (@oyeashish) June 13, 2018
Sakshi your logic is hilarious. How can anyone EVER take you seriously?
Questioning Whatabouterys is a very left liberal thing but for a change let me a Kattar Hindu Right Winger call out “Eh! Left loonies’ whataboutery.” pic.twitter.com/Avk0RZBI7D— rm -rf /bin/INC (@vijay_rajan) June 13, 2018

— ScamBridge analytica (@Alt_Saffron) June 12, 2018
“Showing” terrorism ???
Have you ever dared to ask Gandhis to say sorry 1984 Sikh Genocide ???
Priyanka Chopra “showed” in reels.
Said Sorry.You paymasters DID it.
NEVER said Sorry.— Chaiwala (@IndiaPran) June 12, 2018
Muslim Terrorism is a proven fact, not just in India but globally. Have anyone been able to prove Hindu terrorism except raising it as a ‘possibility’? So Priyanka Chopra should apologize, Sunny Deol should not. Are you incapable of any nuances, @ShekharGupta ? #PriyankaChopra

This publication is a joke. Typical click-baity articles, ruining these young writers. They seem to revel in the hate they get, as if it’s some validation, it’s not. The articles are of genuinely poor quality. Don’t let the real feedback bury under the Internet Lynch mob.

I.D.I.O.T. Islamic terror is well established and shown in thousands of movies.
Does anyone show Christian or Parsi terrorism? Then why show Hindu terror? .— Debasis ROY♥🇮🇳 (@roydebasis) June 12, 2018
You shud say sorry to the Army; to the Indians; to humanity at large. Ps: Pakistan does attack India & not vice versa!
— Eternal Optimist 🎉 (@Optimist_Chic) June 12, 2018
Sunny Deol made a film against Pakistan not against Muslims in general. U presstitute should know the difference. How shameful of a Sr. journo to equate indian Muslims with Pakistan.
— SRINIVASA MURTHY (@shivmurthyin) June 13, 2018
Initially I thought #pidis had some thinking part left in their brains but now I’m sure, its1 empty.
All the terrorists shown in movies mentioned r Pakistanis. Do not label them as Muslims just for ur propaganda.
Better do some research.— Nap King… (@Kanjooosmarwadi) June 13, 2018
