Ever since Hollywood created ‘Lord of the Rings’, Indian cinema lovers have been asking this question: When will Bollywood make a similar grand spectacle with Mahabharata?
That question got a major shot in the arm with the release of ‘Baahubali – The Beginning’ in 2015.
It would not be an exaggeration to state that the Hollywood-level production of this magnificent Telugu historical tale is the greatest technological achievement in Indian cinematic history.
So when do we get to see Mahabharata – unarguably, the world’s greatest epic ever written?
Shah Rukh Khan appears to have an answer. The superstar calls Mahabharata his dream project.

But what is stopping him from doing so? The answer he gives is practical.
“I don’t think I have the budget to do that. I would love to do it, but I don’t think I could afford to. Unless I collaborate,” he said.
And being one of the finest marketing geniuses in the world of cinema, the 51-year-old actor correctly notes that the level of such a film has to be mammoth so as to reach the international markets.
“This one has to go out into the international markets. So you have to collaborate with someone who’s international. You don’t take up a subject like the Mahabharata and make it any less. It should be on the scale of a ‘Baahubali’ or an even larger one,” says SRK.

We hope that SRK finds the right kind of producers to make Mahabharata. We also hope that some of Bollywood’s greatest actors join him for the project because only then will we have a movie worthy of the great epic.
