Tanha dil, tanha safar,
Dhoonde tujhe phir kyoon nazar?
Remember this popular song by Shaan? This song was one of the favorite tracks in the 90s and many are still obsessed with it. Sonu Nigam and Shaan were the two voices that we used to hear in every Bollywood song of the time. Unfortunately, that’s not the case today. With changing time, people’s taste for music has changed and upcoming new voices have replaced the legends. Well, that’ how it works everywhere, right?
It’s quite practical that with time people start craving for something new and that gives budding talents an opportunity. But, we hardly think of those whom we term as ‘old’.
Shaan was at Saavn’s newest show, ‘Talking Music’, where he opened up about not being approached for work anymore and his words are absolutely heartbreaking.
Here’s what the singer said:
“Today you are as big as your social media following is. So, I’m just holding on to whatever I get as answers, because I really don’t have an answer to why suddenly no one wants to get me to sing for them. It’s not like I had a very dated style of singing or I had a very typical way of singing that I exhausted singing over the years.”
He further added:
“There was a time when without even knocking at any doors, things were just happening and now for me to do it I almost feel that bolenge… ‘shaan bechaara aake gaana maang raha tha yaar, kya time aa gaya hai na’. I don’t want someone to even come up with something like that.”
It is really sad that Shaan, one of the finest singers of our generation, is not getting the work he is brilliant at. But let us just say that no matter who comes and become popular, Shaan’s place is reserved in our hearts.
