Oxford Dictionary defines selfie as “a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website”. It is “an image of oneself taken by oneself using a digital camera especially for posting on social networks”, says Merriam-Webster. So, technically, for a photograph to qualify as a selfie, three criteria must be satisfied:
1. It should be a photo of oneself – a human, preferably, unless apes learn how to take a selfie,
2. The photo should be taken by oneself – so, your ‘pout’ picture taken by your BFF is not a selfie,
3. It should be shared on social networks – your photo that can be seen by your eyes only is not a selfie.
Hooked to everything new in the world, some famous Indians, too, were not left behind in sharing their selfies with us, and a huge chunk of them were from Bollywood. But, the craze for selfie can be gauged from the fact that even our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, could not resist taking a few snaps, thereby becoming the first Indian Head of the Government to take a selfie. (If you consider that an achievement!)
Here is a mix of the selfie-snapping famous Indians as shared by them on Twitter and Instagram.
We begin with Alia Bhatt, the cute girl whose selfie does not judges her IQ level
Look who’s here with Alia! Parineeti, Priyanka and…Tabu?
And this one, of Shraddha Kapoor, is special because of the Baap-Beti bonding
The lovely Yami Gautam looks radiant in this selfie
And Soha Ali Khan looks like she has gone back in the era of the classics
This is Katrina Kaif, and we must admit she looks refreshingly beautiful even without make-up. But why that ‘lip smack’?
Jacqueline Fernandes knows how to look good and pose
But Sonam Kapoor knows how to take the perfect selfie…
…and who to take with
It is always sunny at the place where Sunny resides
This selfie of Hrithik Roshan is angelic
Salman and Kareena shared one of the warmest selfies of 2014
We also see King Khan in this selfie taken by Mandira Bedi. (Psst. This one followed Ellen Degenres’ revolutionary selfie.)
Thanks to Varun Dhawan, we also have a snap of Aamir Khan
It is clear that family comes first to the Bachchan’s
And, maybe, to Sania Mirza, too
While Ranbir Kapoor prefers being in a group comprising of Kangana, Deepika and Aamir Khan among others
But this one (Yes, this one) is the ONLY ONE where you catch a glimpse of Ajay Devgn
So, why should our cricketers not have all the fun?
But fooling around is not all that they do
But the man who takes the cake and the topping is PM Narendra Modi
I am off to click my selfie.
