Veteran theatre actress, Seema Bhargava Pahwa, became a household name with her on-screen character, Badki, in the iconic TV Show ‘Hum Log’. Currently, she is Bollywood’s favorite mom. This new-age mom gave stellar performances in ‘Bareilly Ki Barfi’ and ‘Shubh Mangal Savdhan’.

The actress had also won the award for Best Supporting Actress for ‘Ankhon Dekhi’ at 2015 Star screen awards.

She recently gave an interview to film critic Rajeev Masand where she opened up about her journey in Bollywood, the unfortunate state of good actors, and why her every role as a mother is unique.

She believes that every mother is different:

I believe that every individual is different from the other. So when I’m playing a mother, I want to make sure that all of them are different characters. Why should I play the same person all the time? I have my mother and my mother-in-law, who are extremely different, so that’s how I look at my roles, too.

She feels that directors need to explain the character well to young actors:

In today’s time, young actors are not sincere towards their work, and we cannot just blame them for this. Because, in today’s time, directors and writers have no clarity about the role. They don’t get into the depth of a character.

She says that nobody called her even when she performed well:

Honestly, nobody would call me for any role. Many good actors are sitting home because the middle-aged charaters are not written well. The theatre actors don’t get roles and when they get one, the role doesn’t inspire them. After ‘Ankhon Dekhi’ success, I was really excited because I thought I would get good roles now. But nothing happened. Even after ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’, nobody approached me for two years. I hope the situation will change now.

Such is the state of good actors in India. Watch her complete interview here:
