Educational institutions have transformed into commercial institutions where it is important to come off as a place that breeds only toppers. The primary motto is not to impart knowledge but attract parents who can afford the fee and invest in various funds. However, like a light coming from a chink, a school in Anna Hazare’s village believes in sharing knowledge for the real holistic development of children.
Sant Shri Sant Nilobaray Vidyalaya in Ralegan Siddhi is famously known as the school of “failures”. The institution admits expelled or failed students who lack interest in studies. Following their tradition, this year again the school has given 100% results with at least 10 students scoring above 90%.
The school also provides hostel facilities to the lowest academic performers. Suresh Pathare, the hostel’s rector told DNA,
Bright and successful students get opportunities everywhere. Those who fail are almost always rejected. We give an opportunity to such students.
Fifty-one students secured distinction in class 10 and 63 got first class. Manali Gund topped the Class 10 boards with a 96.20%. Class 12 gave 100% pass percentage. Ashwini Bhosale topped the school in Science with 77.69%.
Since 1989, the school has a tradition of admitting failed students. These students are thoroughly groomed and taught discipline. Classes V to XII have been digitized. The school also has biometric attendance, CCTV cameras, and e-learning is the mode of learning.
Activity-based learning procedure has been given preference in the school as teachers take extra care of the students’ learning capabilities. It is notable that failures are given preference during admissions and only the remaining seats can be taken by other students.
Ralegan Siddhi is renowned for being a self-sufficient village. Villagers participate in activities meant for their development. It is not surprising that it is excelling in the field of education by actually taking care of needy students who are going to strengthen their roots.
