The Government on February 3 approved the appointment of former Global Strategist and Managing Director of Deutsche Bank Sanjeev Sanyal as the Principal Economic Adviser.
His appointment was confirmed by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet. According to an order issued by Personnel Minister, Sanyal has been appointed for three years on contract basis.
Sanyal will work under the Department of Economic Affairs.
Sanyal worked for Deutsche Bank till 2015. He was named ‘Young Global Leader 2010’ by the World Economic Forum at Davos.
The Rhodes Scholar hails from a family of illustrious freedom fighters. His granduncle was Sachindra Nath Sanyal, the founder of Hindustan Socialist Republican Association (HRA) and mentor to freedom fighters such as Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekhar Azad, etc.
Besides his achievements on the global economic stage, Sanjeev Sanyal is, perhaps, more popular in India for his phenomenal book ‘Land of Seven Rivers’.
The bestselling book, one of his four such works, documents India’s history from the geographic angle. It connects current places to their history and how India’s geography was drawn and redrawn over millennia.
Congratulations poured for him on social media:
Many congratulations @sanjeevsanyal on your appointment as Principal Economic Adviser. Welcome to government! Am sure you will excel. 👍Advertisement
