India’s famous Tennis player, Sania Mirza is new would-be-mother in town. Her pregnancy news made her fans jump with joy and people started speculating if she is going to give birth to little Sania or little Shoaib. However, the Tennis star has already made her choice clear that she wants a baby girl.
Recently, Sania was at an event organized for the development of women and girl child. While talking about gender equality and women empowerment, the player shared about the challenges she and her sister have faced because they don’t have a brother.
The sports star expressed that people feel pity for them for not having a brother while they don’t feel the need to have one.
Here’s what she said:
“I come from a family of two girls and till today even after everything that I have achieved or try to achieve, when people meet me, they ask, “Do you not have any brother?” and when I answer “No”, they say “oh” (arey). And I am like, that’s fine, it’s absolutely okay because we never felt that need.”
She further added:
“Now I’m pregnant and every time I meet someone, the first thing that people say is they would pray that I am blessed with a baby boy but I request them not to do this and if they want to pray for me, pray for a girl child instead, why are you praying for a boy child? That is the sort of mindset that we grow up with consciously or subconsciously.”

Gender discrimination is not a thing of past, it still prevails! It is our responsibility to make people understand that there is no better or worse between a girl and a boy, they are equal.
