India’s ace badminton player Saina Nehwal on June 12 defeated China’s Sun Yu to win her second Australian Open Title.
After struggling in the first round of the match, Nehwal was able to get back into rhythm and take the match 11-21, 21-14, 21-19.
A day before her coach Vimal Kumar had termed her semi- final’s performance ‘perfect’after she defeated fourth seeded 2012 Olympic silver medalist Yihan, 21-8, 21-12 in straight round.
This was Nehwal’s second Australian Open title but her maiden title this season.
With Nehwal getting back into her old rhythm and rapidly improving her performance, chances of her getting her second consecutive podium finish at Olympics are also improving.
Though in the past few months she was plagued with nagging injuries, this win shows that she is getting back to her old rejuvenated self.
