Dwaraka-Sharda Peeth Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Saraswati has claimed that worshiping of Shirdi Sai Baba by his followers is responsible for the current miserable situation in Maharashtra.
Many regions of Maharashtra are going through worst ever water crisis in a century. As many as 3,228 farmers committed suicide in Maharashtra in 2015, the highest since 2001. Vidarbha and Marathwada, with 5.7 million farmers, accounted for 83 per cent of all farmer suicides in Maharashtra in 2015. Marathwada (Aurangabad) and Vidarbha (Amravati and Nagpur) are the worst affected.
Shankaracharya, who is on a 15-day visit to Haridwar said that worshipping a human as god is considered ‘inauspicious’.
“Calamity strikes where those unworthy of worship are worshipped,” said the seer.
He even quoted scriptures to corroborate his stand. The seer said, such places suffer from ‘drought, flood, death or fear’, and Maharashtra is currently reeling under all of these things.
The seer had earlier expressed his disapproval of worshipping Sai Baba in 2014 too. He also asked devotees to remove pictures of Sai Baba from temples where it is put beside other deities.
The 94-year-old seer has also said that the incidents of rape would increase because women entered the Shani Shingnapur temple’s inner sanctum. He said it would bring them bad luck.
Following this, many people took to Twitter:
