What will you do if you suddenly see bars of gold and platinum, as well as diamonds falling from the sky? Obviously you’d run to collect them.
In what could be described as “golden rain,” an-12 transport aircraft from the Nimbus airline had dropped a batch of bars of the precious metal after an access door fell off of the aircraft during the takeoff.
The total worth of the cargo which was loaded on the plane is estimated to be $365 million (Rs 2369 crore).
A local new media tweeted this news:

The local authorities started their own investigation. According to Russia’s Investigative Committee:
“As it gathered height, the cargo door became damaged due to the shifting of cargo” and “part of the cargo was scattered on the runway.”
The cargo belonged to Kinross Gold which is one among the largest gold mining companies across the globe. One of their representatives stated:
“It is important to note that there were seven crew members and two company representatives on board, none of them were injured, the plane itself landed safely. The whole cargo has been collected, there are no losses, so the issue of insurance is not applicable. We are in close contact with the state and competent authorities, as well as with the airport services. We will certainly carry out our own investigation, with the participation of the air carrier, and based on the results of the investigation, we will strengthen the requirements for the carrier.”
The aircraft soon returned to the airport following this incident. The aircraft landed safely in a nearby village before returning while the airport authorities secured the cargo. The authorities also confirmed that nothing is missing. Here is a video of the incident:
