On Wednesday, around 300 arms and ammunition kept in the warehouse of the police department in Datia district of Madhya Pradesh were destroyed using a road roller. These arms, confiscated between 1995 and 2013 were destroyed by the orders of district collector Madan Kumar.
Naib Tehsildar, J PSrivastava, was appointed as the officer incharge for the destruction of these arms. Also present at the site were Revenue Inspector, Ravikant Shukla, and Subedar Ajay Singh. The process of destruction of arms was carried out in the police line area by the officers as per rules.
The arms were spread on the main road in the police line area of the district. Only when a road roller was made to move on them a number of times, the arms could be destroyed.
Inspector Ravikant Shukla had written to district municipality for the need of JCB and a road roller. However, the municipality could neither provide a JCB, nor a road roller. Then the inspector and Subedar Ajay Singh reached civil line police station in-charge Narendra Sharma for help who sent a road roller being used in the construction of a road in the district.
The remains of these arms have been buried in a 10 feet deep pit in the police line premises.
In the last twenty years, this was the first time when ammunition confiscated from criminals was destroyed by the police in Datia district.
