Rashtriya Janata Dal’s Sarfaraz Alam won the Lok Sabha seat in Araria on March 11 in the by-elections. The seat had fallen vacant following RJD leader Mohammed Taslimuddin’s death last year. Alam had defeated BJP’s Pradeep Kumar Singh by over 60,000 votes. Sarfaraz Alam is the son of Mohammed Taslimuddin.
Soon after Alam’s victory, Union minister Giriraj Singh said his win would make the place a hub of terrorism, which would be a danger to not only Bihar but also the country. And his comments were echoed by BJP MP Gopal Narayan Singh who said that Kishanganj, Katihar and Araria (all in Bihar) are slowly turning into Pakistan. Bihar BJP Chief and Ujiarpur MP, Nityanand Rai, too had said on March 10 that Araria will become an ISI hub if Alam wins.
And quickly after Alam’s win a video went viral in which youths could be seen shouting pro-Pakistan and anti-India slogans. They were raising “Pakistan zindabad” and “Bharat tere tukde honge” slogans in that video. The video went viral soon after the announcement of the Araria bypoll results.
Following these slogans, three local youths were booked in Araria. The locals took out a rally demanding action against the three men after the video surfaced.
The three youths have been identified as Adib Raja, Sultan Azmi and Shehzad and they face charges under various provisions of IPC and IT Act.
Araria Police after confirming that those who are shouting slogans in support of Pakistan in the viral video are neighbours of the newly elected MP registered an FIR against them.
The controversial MLA Sarfaraz Alam is accused in assault and loot case in 2002 and also accused in a sexual harassment case in 2016.
