Actor Rishi Kapoor’s scathing tweets on roads and buildings named after the Gandhi family has got the Congress furious.

Congress activists protested outside Mr Kapoor’s home in Mumbai’s Pali Hill after a series of tweets in which the 63-year-old even commented: “‘Baap ka maal samajh rakha tha?”

The workers have reportedly pelted stones and shouted slogans protesting against the actor’s tweets.

Here are the series of tweets by him:

Kapoor insisted that Gandhi family assets named by Congress should be changed.

Mumbai Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has said that he had sent Mr Kapoor a list of airports in the country named after other leaders. “Some people say anything for the sake of power and due to their parochial attitude,” he said.

“Was Rishi Kapoor sleeping till today? Nehru-Gandhi family has given lives for this nation. He is doing this to make the top rung of the BJP happy. We will not allow the screening of his films in theatres,” a protestor from Congress said.

In Delhi, Congress spokesperson P C Chacko said “some people” wanted to “please” the BJP. “They want to please somebody in power. They can have it but not at the expense of the Congress. We don’t take it seriously and it is not worth any comments at all,” he said without naming Kapoor.

“The Kapoor brothers have amassed large fortune over the years and if Rishi Kapoor wants an asset in his father’s name, the family should spend some money for the welfare of people,” he added.

Retweeting Rishi Kapoor, BJP leader Shaina NC commented: “Akbar Road should be renamed to Maharana Pratap Marg. Imagine Hitler Road in Israel! No country honours its oppressors like we do!!”
