The controversies surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmavati’ look never-ending. From damaging movie’s sets to giving death threats, the people opposing the release of the film have done it all. Deepika Padukone starer ‘Padmavati’ is all set to hit the theatres on December 1, 2017, and the Karni Sena is calling the day as Bharat Bandh.
The makers of the movie ‘Padmavati’ had already made this clear that it’s a pure work of fiction having some historical facts. The character of Rani Padmini in the movie has been adopted from the 1540 poem ‘Padmavat’ by Malik Muhammad Jayasi and the makers have taken full liberty in making the film audience-friendly as it’s not a documentary.
However, there are people who are not willing to understand the concept of fiction movies at all and are ready to take offense at everything. These Karni Sena goons and the people who are supporting their acts are so furious that they are saying ridiculous things one after the other without thinking even for a second.
The latest one, that has raised an alarm among the star cast and makers of the film ‘Padmavati’ is the death threat. Yes, Rs 5 crore reward has been set for bringing Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone’s head.
As reported by TOI, The national president of Akhil Bharatiya Kshatriya Yuva Mahasabha, Thakur Abhishek Som said,
“Anyone who brings the head of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Deepika Padukone will be rewarded with Rs 5 crore. Rani Ma Padmavati had sacrificed her life with 12,000 other women in mass immolation (Jauhar), and Bhansali has raised a question on her courage by showing her in bad light in his film. This is unacceptable. Either both of them should leave the country or get ready to be beheaded.”
This is not the only thing that these Karni goons and their supporters have said. They have been making unacceptable statements one after the other without any fear. Here’s a list of ridiculous things the Karni Sena goons have said that deserves a slow clap.
1. Sri Rajput Karni Sena chief Lokendra Singh Kalvi slammed Deepika for her remarks that the country is becoming regressive and said:
“The country is not regressing, you are making it so. I beg Deepika not to insult women… Deepika is seen dancing with fewer clothes in the film. How are you trying to portray the Indian women?”
2. Lokendra Singh Kalvi has also made a threatening statement:
“Jauhar ki jwala hai, bahut kuch jalega. Rok sako to rok lo (a lot will burn, stop if you can).”
3. The RKS patron also alleged that Padmavati was financed by the “underworld”.
4. Lokendra Singh Kalvi even suggested a new name for the movie:
“My question is, why name this film Padmavati? Go and name it ‘Leela Ek Gujarati’. We will not spare the family of Bhansali because he has insulted our mother Padmavati.”
“The queen is shown performing the ghoomar dance in indecent clothes, which is a faulty portrayal of Rajputs. A Rajput queen would never perform before an audience nor bare her midriff.”
6. When the movie’s set was vandalized by the goons, Narayan Divrala, district president, Karni Sena backed their act saying:
“We have learnt that the filmmakers are portraying the film as a love story between Alauddin Khilji and Padmini, which is a blatant distortion of history. That is why we stopped the shooting and told the makers that we won’t let them continue unless they make changes.”
7. Before giving death threats, Deepika was given threat of physical harm, calling her “Shurpanakha”, it was said:
“Rajputs never raise a hand on women but if need be, we will do to Deepika what Lakshman did to Shurpanakha.”
8. Explaining the anger that people have for the movie ‘Padmavati’, Haryana minister, Vipul Goel said:
“There is anger among the people of Haryana, like many other states, regarding the film glorifying the negative character of Alauddin Khilji rather than our own rich history.”
9. Calling the song ‘Ghoomar’ cultural insensitive, Maharajkumar Vishvaraj Singh, son of Mahendra Singh Mewar said:
“The song Ghoomar and publicity material that has released establishes gross inaccuracies that transgress the limits of dramatic license. If the film professes to be history and its maker goes on record to claim that he has kept in mind cultural sensitivities, it is an artistic and historic fraud to portray an incorrectly attired courtesan-like painted doll in the song as the very ‘queen’ the film purports to pay obeisance to.”
10. Giving the tag of anti-national to the movie, VHP leader Acharya Dharmendra said:
“The film Padmavati is anti-Hindu and anti-national. It is an attack on Hindu pride. The filmmakers should be punished.”
Creating problems, vandalizing sets, and giving death threats are everything that is against the law. Taking law in your hand and challenging the government is not acceptable.
