Dreams do come true! They have, at least for Nisar Ahmad – a 16-year-old boy living in the slums of Azadpur, New Delhi. Nisar is a fast runner and has been pursuing his passion since childhood.
All his hard work has paid off as he has now been selected to get trained under the same Jamaican Company as world’s number one racer Usain Bolt.
Nisar’s father is a rickshaw puller and his mother works as a domestic help. Despite both parents working day and night, Nisar’s family income is barely Rs 5000 per month. In such circumstances, Nisar could have never imagined to get professional training, forget international exposure.
In a life-changing event, the Gas Authority of India Limited and the Sports Management Company Anglian Medal Hunt have selected him for 4-week training in the West Indies. India’s best 14 youngsters from Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Uttarakhand, Odisha, and Delhi will get a chance to go there.
During the Delhi State Athletics meet organized recently at the Government Boys Secondary School in New Delhi, Nisar broke two national under-16 records. He ran the 100 m race in 11 seconds shaving 0.02 seconds off the national record while he completed the 200 m race in just 22.08 seconds.
Nisar is popularly called ‘Delhi’s Usain Bolt’. Well, Kudos to this young talent! This is not only an achievement for Nisar Ahmad and his family, in fact, a proud moment for the whole country. Nisar’s hard work and dedication towards his passion is indeed an inspiration for millions of people throughout the country.
