Immediately after his retirement on September 30, 2016, Major General Somnath Jha set off on a mission so great that the entire country stood with him.
The 58-year-old decided to cycle across the country in memory of every single soldier who died for the nation since India attained independence in 1947.
The number of soldiers who attained martyrdom for the country stands at approximately 21,000.
Today, Maj Gen Jha completed a journey of approximately 11,000 kilometers covering each of India’s 29 states in almost seven months.
