India is a land of bravehearts. From before the Independence till 71 years after it, we have seen people fiercely protecting their motherland. Without even the slightest doubt, they lay their lives if it means keeping Mother India safe. Such one brave son of the nation is Lance Naik Sandeep Singh. He died a death of a hero during an anti-infiltration operation in Jammu and Kashmir that took place on September 24, 2018.
This 30-year-old soldier walked right into the danger zone to keep his country safe and did that with his life. However, this is not the first time he entered into such a crucial danger zone. He was also a part of Indian Army’s Special Forces that carried out the surgical strikes on militants in 2016.
This surgical strike was retaliation by India on September 29, 2016, for a militant attack on the India Army at Uri. The attack at Uri took place on September 18, 2016. Though rejected by Pakistani Army, India actually conducted strikes against militant launch pads across the LOC (an area controlled by Pakistan).
In the recent anti-infiltration operation that took place in Tanghar sector of J&K, Lance Naik Sandeep Singh gunned down three militants. A total of five militants were killed during the gunfight.
He was the head of a 4-members search party of Para-Commandos. Along with his team, he headed out to conduct a search after they got tip-offs about an infiltration.
A native of the village of Kotla Khurd of Gurdaspur in Punjab, he is survived by his wife and a 5-year-old son. He died just a few days ahead of the 2nd anniversary of the surgical strikes 2016.
The mortal remains of the martyr will be taken to his native place in Punjab in order to conclude the last rites. He will be laid to rest with full military honours. Naturally, the Indian Army stands in solidarity with his family.
Indian Army also took to Twitter to pay a tribute to Lance Naik Sandeep Singh.
