After all the controversies surrounding Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’, the film that finally released on January 25, 2018, has rceived mixed reviews and impressive box-office opening. The film which stars Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in pivotal roles, has earned an estimated Rs 162 crore worldwide. ‘Padmaavat’ managed to sneak in the top ten worldwide releases and is the only non-Khan film to achieve this feat.
In the movie, Ranveer Singh has played the role of Delhi Sultan Alauddin Khilji, and has mesmerized the audience by his raw and intense portrayal of Khilji.
However, Ranveer has time and again mentioned that he didn’t relate to the greedy and ambitious nature of the character. As per a report, Ranveer mentioned:
“I have a very large vision for myself, my body of work, my career. I hope to build a vast legacy with a filmography which I can be proud of when I am done. I want to look back and feel like I made a significant contribution to the art and yes, keep pushing the envelope and keep exploring to things that have not been done before.”
He further mentioned that he didn’t relate to Alauddin Khilji at any level but still had faith in his abilities and what he can achieve. He also stated that it was a huge risk to act in “Padmaavat” and at one point he started developing a fear from within.
However, it was his mom who used to give him assurance about his skills and that he can pull it off easily.
“Once I committed, I put my everything into it. But, yes, initially there were apprehensions,” contended Ranveer, who found the character ‘mentally, physically and emotionally’ draining.
With so much hue and cry before its release, the film has managed to raise curiosity among the audience.
