2018 has been an eventful year for actor Ranveer Singh. After marrying love of his life Deepika Padukone, his movie Simmba is all set to enter the Rs 200 crore club of Bollywood. The Rohit Shetty-directed cop drama is also Ranveer Singh’s second most successful film, after Padmaavat. Simmba has also already crossed the lifetime business of Bajirao Mastani. And now in 2019, he is back to charm the audience once again. The first trailer of Zoya Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Gully Boy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt is out.

The movie is loosely based on the life and struggles of rapper Vivian Fernandes aka Divine, who is known for songs like Meri Gully and Roots. Divine also collaborated with DJ Nucleya for Jungle Raja. If you remember, the rapper has also composed and sung the song Badla with Amit Trivedi for Irrfan Khan’s Blackmail.

To portray Divine as realistic as possible, Ranveer spent a lot of time with the rapper. Despite any formal training in rapping, the actor quickly learned the nuances of this particular form of singing.

Ranveer hopes that the film will take hip hop to each and every corner of India. The trailer of Gully Boy shows Ranveer Singh living in a poor locality and being repeatedly told that he could not rise above his economic and social status. However, he believed apna time aayega (my time will come).
