After facing a lot of criticism, Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat’ finally got released. The movie might have faced numerous hurdles but the outcome paid off all the efforts of the film’s cast and crew. Deepika Padukone who has played the lead role in the film as Rani Padmavati is receiving unending appreciation from all the corners but Bollywood’s power station Ranveer Singh is someone who has succeeded in blowing everyone’s mind with his gruesome acting as Khilji. Ranveer played it exactly the way Bhansali wanted or the people wanted to see Khilji and it took him a lot to play the character.
It is said that Ranveer worked on his character for almost one year, isolated himself, and even visited psychiatrists to get rid of the after-effects of playing Khilji. But, there is one person who has helped all the actors of the film to look the way their character demanded. National Award-winning makeup, hair and prosthetic designer Preetisheel Singh is the woman who worked on Bhansali’s vision and turned it into reality. Bhansali’s period drama ‘Padmaavat’ was difficult for all the three actors but it was equally difficult for Preetisheel.
Preetisheel, who has shown us her magic in movies like Bajirao Mastani, Rangoon, Brothers, Mom, Haider, Parched, Hawaizaada, Shivaay, Talwar, Housefull 3, Ghayal Once Again and Finding Fanny, talked about the challenges she faced while working with Sanjay Leela Bhansali and said:
“When working with Bhansali Sir, one has to be ready to always put in that extra bit as he has such a keen eye for aesthetics and detail. I read the script and understood the characters — how they dealt with people. Visualized the environment they would have grown up in, their likes and dislikes, their personality etcetera.”
She further added:
“There’s a lot of study that went into getting under the skin of every character. Post this, I went through my look-references and finally came up with something that would equally excite the director and the actors. I was thrilled when Bhansali Sir finalized the looks.”

Earlier, when the movie was facing problems because of the censor board and Karni Sena goons, Preetisheel had refused to comment anything about her work. She told:
“It broke my heart witnessing all the turmoil the film was going through. So I had decided, I will only speak about it when the labour of work met success. I cannot even imagine how Bhansali Sir would have coped up with the storm. My admiration for him has increased manifold.”

And now, when the movie has been released and is receiving such overwhelming response, Preetisheel is happy and relieved that everyone’s efforts have finally borne fruit.
