Even as 31st edition of the Olympic Games came to an end, India’s performance in Rio started to be scrutinised by “celebrities” who have absolutely no idea about sports.

India’s performance at the recently concluded Rio Olympics has over the weeks been ridiculed by controversies, and the conclusion only seems to bring more non-sports “celebs” take a dig at it.

Another person to be added to this list of ‘commentators’ is Bollywood director Ram Gopal Verma, who in past has irked many by his random comments.

He on August 22, Verma sent out a series of Tweets that not only took a dig at India’s performance but also how people are reacting to it.

Comparing India’s performance to that of the US (who topped Rio Olympics with 121 medals), Verma asked, “if we call ourselves incredible India what should (we call) US?”

He further compared India’s performance to that of South Korea and questioned its inability to win gold.

This is not the first time that India’s performance in Rio has been questioned. Few days back socialite Sobha De too had sent out a tweet accusing Indian athletes of only taking  “selfies” and not performing.

A week later, a Pakistani journalist, took a dig at India’s bronze medal performance and questioned India’s reaction to it.

While in both the above cases Twitterati’s had slammed them for their comments, the fact remains that despite few close calls, India was only able to win two Olympic medals, which is only one-third of what they got in 2012 edition of London Olympics (6).
