On August 1, the administration of Daman and Diu issued a circular to all its departments mandating all the staff to join the Rakshabandhan celebrations on Monday, August 7. Now, what seems absolutely strange and bizarre about this is the fact that to mark the celebration of Rakshabandhan, all the female employees of Daman & Diu administration were required to tie a rakhi to their male colleagues.
Issued by the Deputy Secretary Gurpreet Singh, this circular further mandated the attendance of all, the report of which was to be submitted the day after by 5 pm.
Needless to say, the imposed Rakshabandhan celebrations became the talk of the town instantly, especially among the bureaucratic circle, which in turn prompted the Daman & Diu Administration to withdraw the notice with immediate effect.
Here’s the photograph of the withdrawn circular:
On inquiring further into the matter, Gurpreet Singh said that the entire decision was taken by the Center to promote “brotherhood” among all. But since the decision of imposed rakshabandhan celebrations received much criticism and flak from the public and employees alike, it was revoked with immediate effect.
Gurpreet Singh said:
Yes, I issued the circular because my seniors had instructed so. But it was revoked today after receiving great criticism.
It is to be noted that the Daman and Diu being a union territory, the administration is controlled directly by the Central government.
