On the occasion of 2nd International Yoga Day, most of the union ministers in Modi government spread across the country to celebrate the event.
In Lucknow, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and Shia cleric Maulana Yasoob Abbas practiced Yoga as Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the way in Chandigarh.
Surprisingly, despite uncertain weather and rains, the home minister enthusiastically participated in the event and set an example through his dedication.
Other ministers who participated in various programmes hosted by the Modi government across the country, included Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu, Delhi Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung and Bharatiya Janata Party MP Meenakshi Lekhi performing Yoga in Delhi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh and Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal in Raipur, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari in Nagpur, while BJP Chief Amit Shah and Baba Ramdev practicing in Yoga Faridabad.
The home minister said yoga is a cultural asset of the country, and it must not be seen in religious context. He asserted that around 46 Islamic countries supported this move, so it should not been seen on the basis of religion, but on the basis of humanity.
Earlier, PM Modi called on the world to embrace Yoga as a discipline in everyday life.
He asserted that the ancient Indian art was the most selfless of its kind, as it did not discriminate, did not ask for much, but simply functioned for the betterment of mankind and brought every society together.
Stating that Yoga Day has garnered massive support from across the world, Prime Minister Modi said that there is no other event which matches the global popularity of this day.
