Rajesh Khanna’s iconic bungalow, Aashirwad, is being demolished.
Its new owner, Shashi Kiran Shetty, plans to erect a four-storey residence for his personal use in its place.
And with that ends a historic chapter of Indian film industry and the late Khanna’s dream of converting the bungalow into a museum.
But one should have seen this coming. The iconic superstar’s family sold the sea-facing Carter Road residence for Rs.90 crore to Shetty, who is the founder and chairman of AllCargo Logistics.
The 603-sq-metre bungalow was originally built by Rajendra Kumar before Khanna purchased it just before he hit the height of his superstardom in the late 60s and early 70s.
