Finally, the railways has decided to clean the blankets, that are provided by them, after every use.
The move is still in planning stage. According to the plan, the blankets will be now made of soft fabric and will be lightweight.
A senior Railway Ministry official told PTI:
“Since there were complaints about blankets, we have tried to address the issue. We have approved the NIFT-designed washable blanket. The washable blankets will be used in a few selected premier trains to begin with and later more trains will be covered.”
Further, the blankets will be made from wool and cotton, which can withstand daily wash.
“We are procuring blankets designed by NIFT which can be washed after every use and still last longer,” said the official.
However, they are sanitized every 15 days.
Besides the blankets, the Railways has also planned to redesign entire bedroll. The official said that passengers preferred coloured bedroll to the all-white, according to a survey.
Also, the interiors of the coaches are being modified to match the colour of curtains and bedsheets.
In addition, Railways introduced e-bedroll facility. The passengers in sleeper class coaches can opt for bedroll while booking tickets online.
