He went there to see two phenomenal boxers fight for a title bout, but Rahul Gandhi found himself braving punches of a different kind at the Thyagaraj stadium on Saturday night.
The Congress vice-president was reportedly booed when he entered the stadium to watch India’s Vijender Singh square off against Australia’s Kerry Hopes.
Gandhi, dressed in a grey t-shirt and denims, settled beside IPL Chairman and Congress leader Rajiv Shukla to watch the match.
But while Vijender landed one punch after another on Hopes, Gandhi found himself surrounded by hundreds cheering on Modi’s name.
The 46-year-old Gandhi scion heard, perhaps to his great discomfort, chants of “Modi, Modi”.

And when the match was over (Vijender defeated Hopes to win the WBO Asia Pacific Super Middleweight Championship), Gandhi was again booed on his way out of the stadium.
He simply smiled back because obviously.
