Senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy has sent a petition to the Home Ministry requesting a probe into the “secret” British citizenship of the Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. Addressed to the union home minister Rajnath Singh, the petition says that MHA, being custodian of citizenship, should probe into the British company documents, wherein Rahul Gandhi allegedly declared himself as a British National with London addresses.
To prove his case, Subramanian Swamy also presented certain documents on Rahul’s company called Backops Ltd floated in London along with the petition and pointed out how from 2003 till the dissolution of the company in 2009, the Congress leader declared his nationality as British in many legal documents.
Furthermore, seeking cancellation of Rahul’s Indian citizenship as well as his Lok Sabha membership, Swamy said:

Finally in the dissolution application as well, Mr.Rahul Gandhi states that his nationality is British as on the date he was appointed as Director of the said company.
To back his views, the economist cum mathematician also cited Articles 9 and 18 of the Indian Constitution, which state that Indian citizens cannot accept any other country’s citizenship, and if accepted, the Indian citizenship ceases to be valid automatically.
As of now, the issue of Rahul Gandhi’s British citizenship is pending before Lok Sabha’s Ethics Committee, chaired by senior BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. The Ethics Committee had sought an explanation from the Congress vice president, who replied that no one can doubt his Indian origin. However, he did not explain how in the documents of his company Backops Ltd, he allegedly declared himself as British citizenship during the period 2003 to 2009.
