A delegation of seniors Congress leaders will meet Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh to apprise him about “the seriousness of the threat” that Congress VP Rahul Gandhi has received in a letter.
The delegation has sought “additional security measures” for Rahul Gandhi.
The news about the security threat was confirmed by both top Congress leaders and senior home ministry officials.
According to news reports, the assassination threat came via an unsigned letter that was written in Tamil and posted from Pondicherry on May 4.
Looking at the fact that Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to visit Karaikal on May 10 for a public meeting, the leaders decided not to take this threat lightly and acted on it immediately.
The threat letter was mailed to V Narayanswamy, who was a PMO minister during the UPA government.
The letter held Congress responsible for the “closure of industries in Pondicherry” and thus threatened Rahul. It said that he will be “blasted” when he addresses the Karaikal meeting.
The May 9 meeting with home ministry is thus said to decide security procedures for Rahul, who’s an SPG protectee.
