Shah Rukh Khan’s latest movie ‘Raees’ has broken all the records. The super hit movie was also all set to hit theaters in Pakistan when its Prime Minister, Nawaz Sharif, gave a nod to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to lift the ban from screening Bollywood films by issuing a no-objection certificate to Indian films, subject to clearance by the Censor Board.
After Hrithik Roshan starrer ‘Kaabil’ got a green signal in Pakistan, SRK’s ‘Raees’ release was scheduled for Sunday. The official handout issued by the Information Ministry said,
The government was pleased to continue the existing open policy to display all international movies (including Indian films) in Pakistani cinemas.
However, there was a condition that the movie will only be released after getting approval from relevant censor boards.
Now, the country’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has said that Rahul Dholakia’s Mahira Khan starrer ‘Raees’ will not be released in Pakistan. The reason behind this ban is still unknown but a report published by IANS says,
The content undermines Islam, and a specific religious sect, (It also) portrays Muslims as criminals, wanted persons and terrorists.
An official of the Censor Board said that most members of the Central Censor Board were against the release of the movie.
Rahul Dholakia, the director of ‘Raees’ was not at all happy with this decision. He even took to Twitter and vented out his anger by tweeting this…
#raeesbanned in Pakistan ??? Outraged !! Dumbfounded!!
