Indian Railways passengers are most of the time worried when their seats are not confirmed. Till the last moment, they stand unsure of the chances of getting a berth. Even if the reserved seats are empty in the train, the seats are of no use to the ones whose status in the waiting list is stagnant. But Indian Railways is about to give its passengers a gift which will solve these issues.
Especially waitlisted and RAC ticket holders have a reason to cheer. Without further ado let’s tell you.
Indian Railways is coming up with the new tablet device that will be given to TTEs across the national transporter’s network. It is called the Hand-Held Terminals (HHTs), and these devices will help TTEs update Indian Railways about the real-time occupancy status of a running train. Yes, this will increase the chances of waitlisted and RAC tickets getting confirmed.
A Railway Ministry official told to a news portal:
“To begin with, the plan is to introduce these hand-held devices in all Shatabdi and Rajdhani Express trains. We are going to distribute around 550 HHTs across the Indian Railways network and based on the response, the service will be extended to all trains with reserved coaches.”
The device will provide a number of benefits such as source charts and current booking list through GPRS, It will also download charts of remote locations on the train through GPRS. The device has the provision to mark attendance of passengers in any coach and it will allow for a status upgrade.
Now the paper charts will be replaced with e-charts and it will enable computerisation of on-board passenger interface operations.
