Manjit Kaur, a decorated sub-inspector in the Punjab police force, created history this week by marrying the love of her life — who just happens to be a woman. The 30 year-old married her partner with all the pomp and show a wedding deserves in a ceremony performed according to Hindu rituals in the Pucca Baugh area of Punjab.
Both families partook in the celebrations wholeheartedly and the couple was surrounded by the love and blessings of friends and family on the day that marks the beginning of the rest of their lives together.
Here’s hoping more members of the gay community, in India and abroad, find the same kind of courage, and support. Most importantly, here’s wishing the two all the luck and happiness in the world.
