Honored to have participated in the Global Goals Awards tonight at the UN General Assembly in NYC. These awards highlight the role girls play in changing their lives and in making progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Equally proud to have presented the Leadership Award to the amazing @ria13sharma from India for her stellar work for acid attack survivors. Ria founded Make Love Not Scars (MLNS) which is an organization that actively supports survivors of acid attacks physically and mentally, and campaigns to raise awareness of the issue. Ria’s efforts are contributing to change the lives of many women who have survived acid attacks. MLNS have ensured that survivors receive free treatment under the Supreme Court order for the welfare of acid victims passed in April 2015. #globalgoals #unga #foreverychild @unicef Please swipe for more.

I’m in Cox’s Bazar, Bangladesh today for a field visit with UNICEF, to one of the largest refugee camps in the world. In the second half of 2017, the world saw horrific images of ethnic cleansing from the Rakhine State of Myanmar(Burma). This violence drove nearly 700,000 Rohingya across the border into Bangladesh – 60% are children! Many months later they are still highly vulnerable, living in overcrowded camps with no idea when or where they will ever belong…even worse, when they will get their next meal. AND…as they finally start to settle and feel a sense of safety, monsoon season looms…threatening to destroy all that they’ve built so far. This is an entire generation of children that have no future in sight. Through their smiles I could see the vacancy in their eyes. These children are at the forefront of this humanitarian crisis, and they desperately need our help. The world needs to care. We need to care. These kids are our future. However, Priyanka Chopra was slammed ruthlessly by her fans on her post on Instagram as the netizens questioned her about her stand on poor conditions in India. People questioned her about her attempts on helping the Kashmiri pandits in the Kashmir Valley.

People reacted with an outrage while brutally slamming the actress on not doing anything for the problems in her home country, while going out in Bangladesh and helping the refugees there.
