Priyanka Chopra is in headlines again, this time not for any new project or a new campaign but an advertisement! A few days back we saw her promoting the Assam Tourism through a colorful ad.
She wore a colorful red attire to represent the culture of Assam. However, she is now getting trolled for a reason that may sound bizarre to many people.
The “Quantico” star is being trolled for wearing revealing clothes – ‘a frock’ and for showing her ‘cleavage’ on the Assam tourism calendar.
That’s the calendar we are talking about!
While, Congress leaders Nandita Das and Rupjyoti Kurmi have protested against Priyanka Chopra’s Assam tourism calendar.
Kurmi gave a statement, “The government should preserve the respect of the Assamese society. Frock is not an Assamese attire and the calendar pictures were not sober at all.The government should have known how to preserve the prestige of the Assamese society, instead, they could have used the traditional ‘mekhela sador’. This is the reason we have protested against the calendar. There are a lot of talented Assamese actors, the government should look into this and accordingly appoint one.”
On the other hand, the Chairman of the Assam Tourism Development Corporation Jayanta Malla Baruah (ATDC) supported the actress and said everything positive about the picture on the calendar. He stated, ” Priyanka Chopra is an international figure and her presentation in the calendar has not diminished Assam’s culture in any way.”
Shutting down, the entire controversy and trolls against her, Priyanka recently gave a striking interview to Harpers Bazaar Arabia magazine, Priyanka mentioned about being trolled and scrutinized for unusual things. She stated, “Women are shamed all the time, for everything. For what they might wear or say. For what they should be doing, where they’re going.”
She added further:
“There’s no way I would have had an almost 20-year career if I was sensitive to people’s opinions. I live my life for myself and for the people I care about. I learned very early in my career there is no way in the world you will be able to please everyone.”
She clearly mentioned that nothing bothers her anymore. On a similar note, she contended, “It’s somebody sitting behind the anonymity of their computer and having an opinion. How does it matter? I love social media, I put whatever I want out there, but I don’t take people’s opinions seriously because if I started doing that, I wouldn’t be able to live life at all.”
She emphasized on the fact that it is entirely her decision to live her life on her own terms and whatever is a woman’s individuality in general needs to be appreciated.
She concluded by saying:
“We’re from the land of Kama Sutra. We taught the world how to have babies, so sexy comes naturally to us, especially Indian women. Indian culture is not conservative, it’s not submissive, it’s actually very empowering of women. There is a seductiveness to Indian women. The long hair, the kohl in the eyes, the long sari, the waist. It’s all sexy.”
