Bollywood star PeeCee is making a lot of headlines recently but for all the wrong reasons. Popular in Hollywood for her role in the TV series Quantico, Priyanka Chopra landed in a storm of controversies when one of the episodes showed ‘Hindu terrorists’ trying to blow up an American city while framing Pakistan in the process. Needless to say, that attracted a lot of criticism from Indians staying in the country and in America.
Following that, someone discovered an old video of a red carpet interview. When asked about Bollywood movies, she gave such answer that led people to shower her with an abundance of negative comments. This is what she said:
‘With Indian movies, everything is about the HIPS and the BOOBS. It is all about the movement of the hips and the boobs.’

Getting back to the Quantico issue, after the outrage, ABC Studios tendered their apology to the Indian audience. This is what they said:
‘ABC Studios and the executive producers of Quantico would like to extend an apology to our audience who were offended by the most recent episode, The Blood of Romeo. The episode has stirred a lot of emotion, much of which is unfairly aimed at Priyanka Chopra, who didn’t create the show, nor does she write or direct it. She has no involvement in the casting of the show or the storylines depicted in the series. Quantico is a work of fiction. The show has featured antagonists of many different ethnicities and backgrounds, but in this case, we inadvertently and regrettably stepped into a complex political issue. It was certainly not our intention to offend anyone.’
Soon, people started calling out Priyanka Chopra for her mum on the entire matter. They also went ahead to call her ‘money-hungry.’ Finally, the actress came forward with her apology. This is what she tweeted:
I’m extremely saddened and sorry that some sentiments have been hurt by a recent episode of Quantico. That was not and would never be my intention. I sincerely apologise. I’m a proud Indian and that will never change.

The matter should have ended with her apology but unfortunately, it was stretched on by the Twitterati. The users labeled her apology as fake and refused to believe that she really regrets hurting the sentiments of the people. Naturally, they showed their displeasure by tweeting. Here are some:
South Africa’s Jonty Rhodes has named his daughter “INDIA”
Indonesia’s President has named his grandson “NARENDRA”
In India some mentals like @priyankachopra r from same clan, who name their kids TAIMUR, BABUR!

BTW she totally skipped if she’s a proud Hindu. I wonder if she is even a Hindu anymore

This is a ridiculous tweet. You’re not even apologizing. You make it sound like Indians are hurt, which is not the issue. The issue is you have denigrated peaceful Indians, especially Indian-American Hindus, who have NEVER had 1 single terror case. You lied.

One tweet that gained much attention was posted by an US citizen who criticized Priyanka Chopra for ‘betraying’ her country. Here’s the video:
एक बार सुन लेना इस clip को आप जैसे लोगो Money ओर Money के लिए देश के प्रति ओर भारतीय संस्कृति के खिलाफ बोलना आदत सी हो गई है ” ओर ये एक out of India की होकर भी भारत देश के लिए इतना सम्मान है!!

Thankfully, there were few who understood that the matter is going on for too long and decided to show their support. Here’s what they wrote:
An individual person or character on fictional tv show doesn’t define an entire country or religion why is that so hard to understand. Get your heads out of ur asses

The job of an actor is to act. The only person you can blame is the scriptwriter or the director.

As first South Asian lead in an American TV show, Priyanka has played a Hindu character (also wearing an Om bracelet & carrying a small mandir which she didn’t have to but did) in an international TV show for 3 years.

We think that it’s time for the netizens to hold their horses and let the matter go. After all, there are much more important things that require their attention. Like, trolling another celebrity maybe!
What do you think about this ongoing trolling of Priyanka Chopra?
