It was a perfect dream debut any cricketer would expect. Mumbai batsman Prithvi Shaw made history on October 4, 2018, and became the youngest Indian to score a Test century after Sachin Tendulkar. At 18 years and 329 days, Shaw reached the historic 100 marks off just 99 balls, studded with 15 boundaries. On the other hand, Sachin, at 17 years and 107 days scored his maiden Test cent century in 1990 vs England in Manchester, with a fine unbeaten knock of 119. Shaw made his first test century was against the West Indies team on Day 1 of the opening Test at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Rajkot.
Shaw also became the 15th Indian to score a hundred on Test debut. It was also the third fastest century on Test debut. The fastest century was made by Shikhar Dhawan against Australia in Mohali in 2013.
It is not only just this record, Prithvi has earned a reputation in the domestic circuit, scoring runs match after match. At 17 years, Prithvi Shaw became the second youngest player to score a three-figure mark in the Duleep Trophy with the record once again belonging to Sachin Tendulkar.
Sachin Tendulkar had this to say about Prithvi:
“Ten years ago, one of my friends asked me to take a look at a young Prithvi. He asked me to analyze his game and see if there anything he could work on. I had a session with him and gave a couple of pointers on how to improve his game. I told my friend later that he is going to go on and play for India.”
Earlier too the talented cricketer grabbed media limelight after scoring 546 off 330 balls for his school Rizvi Springfield. After this he was likened to Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Twitterati too took to social media platform to applaud the young man for his incredible achievement.
