Our Prime Minister Narendra Modi has joined Chinese social media platform Weibo. Weibo is often referred to as Twitter of China.
The Prime Minister announced his new social media avatar on Twitter:
你好中国!期待通过微博与中国朋友们互动. Hello China! Looking forward to interacting with Chinese friends through Weibo. pic.twitter.com/yQcKn9bqTE
— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) May 4, 2015
The moves comes just weeks before his scheduled visit to the country. Hectic preparations are underway on both sides to make PM’s visit a success.
Modi is the first Indian politician to open an account with China’s biggest social-media platform. he gathered over 7000 followers in the first hour itself, but Hindustan Times reports that some Weibo users from China reiterated the official Chinese stand on Arunachal Pradesh – that it is a part of China.
It is to be seen how the PM, who is known to have used the power of social media to ride to power at the Centre last year, uses his Chinese handle.
