In shocking news, television actress Pratyusha Banerjee hanged herself on 1 April, 2016. The actress was 24 years old and had worked in television since 2010, when she joined the cast of ‘Balika Vadhu’.
According to news sources, Pratyusha was removed from ‘Balika Vadhu’ due to unprofessional behavior and the actress had gained a reputation for being a volatile person.
The actress was taken to the Kokilaben Hospital by her boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh and was declared dead at the hospital. Since then attempts to reach Singh have failed as his phone has been switched off.
Banerjee’s career had been going smoothly. She had worked in TV soaps ‘Sasural Simar Ka’ and ‘Hum Hain Na’ along with appearing on reality TV series ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Ja 5’, ‘Bigg Boss 7’ and ‘Power Couple’.
The death of the Jamshedpur-born actress was confirmed by Mumbai Police spokesperson Dhananjay Kulkarni, who also said that Mumbai Police will be investigating the matter.
In January of 2016, Pratyusha Banerjee had alleged that eight policemen had barged into her house and molested her. She had filed an FIR at Kandivali Police Station. However, cops had denied the incident. They said four plainclothes policemen had gone to her flat looking for Rahul Singh who lived with her and against whom a Non-Cognisable (NC) Offence had been registered for attacking Amit Dalvi, a loan recovery agent who had gone to collect an installment of a car loan.
It is being speculated that the actress killed herself due to troubles in her romantic relationship with Rahul Raj Singh, a producer. The two had been living together and were reportedly planning to get married.
While the above news remains unconfirmed, Pratyusha did have a troubled relationship with businessman Markand Malhotra in 2013. The actress had filed a police complaint against Malhotra saying her abused and threatened her and her family. However, Malhotra filed counter charges against her.
As the story unfolded, Malhotra claimed that they had been in a relationship over two years while Banerjee said they had broken up a long time ago. Allegedly, when Malhotra found out about Banerjee cheating on him, he tried to confront her but she refused to see him. The next day, she kept calling him and when he asked her not to, she told her father, Malhotra was harassing her. Malhotra then received a threatening and abusive call from her father, which he recorded.
“When my mother told Pratyusha’s mom that we were going to file a police complaint, she pleaded with us not to do so. So, we backed out. But later, around 3 am, I got a call from Oshiwara Police Station, informing me about Pratyusha’s complaint. I went there and made the cops listen to the recording. It was they who asked me to file a counter complaint against Pratyusha and her father, which I did,” said Malhotra.
The actress had announced her engagement to Rahul Raj Singh in December 2015, but reports suggest that he had left her for someone else. Mumbai Police will be questioning him soon.
Meanwhile, Ajaz Khan, a co-actor and close friend of the actress, has stated that Pratyusha was too strong a girl to have committed suicide. He stated that it was a planned murder.
