Politicians in different countries across the world have differing incomes, but in some countries, they are paid much higher than in others. Here is a list of popular politicians who are paid huge salaries by their respective states:
1. Vladimir Putin
Recently, Russia’s President Vladimir Putin disclosed his annual salary. According to his revelation, he earns an annual salary of USD 3,02,000 from his job as the President of his country. This amount, when converted into Indian Rupee, implies that he earns a little more than Rs 2 crore.
2. Theresa May
Prime Minister of Britain, Theresa May earns an annual salary of USD 2,02, 769 which is a little over 1 crore 37 lakh. Apart from this, she also gets residential allowance and funds under the retirement plan, totalling over Rs 4 crore 35 lakh per year. It is interesting to note that last year, an issue was raised that her salary is less than even the vice-chancellors of the universities in Britain.
3. Donald Trump
Prior to taking charge as the President of the USA, Donald Trump had said that he would donate his entire salary. However, businessman turned President has only donated only USD 4,00,000 in three installments, which is only about half of his salary. Trump gets an annual salary of USD 5,69,000 which is over Rs 3 crore 85 lakh. Apart from this, he also gets allowances equalling USD 1,69,000 (more than Rs 1 crore 14 lakh).
4. Lee Hsien Loong
Elected as the Prime Minister of Singapore for the third time in a row, Lee Hsien Loong has been serving as the PM of the country since 2004. He is also the highest paid national leader of the world with a staggering annual salary of USD 2.2 million which is close to Rs 15 crore!
5. Alain Berset
As the President of Switzerland, Alain Berset makes about USD 480,000 as his annual salary. This, when converted into Indian currency, comes close to Rs 3 crore 25 lakh. It is interesting to note that the salary of Switzerland’s President also increases as per the dearness allowance just like other citizens of the country.
6. Justin Trudeau
Totalling a salary of USD 170,400 and other allowances, Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada earns close to USD 345,400, which converts to Rs 2 crore 34 lakh.
7. Narendra Modi
How can we forget to take a look at India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s salary when talking about popular political leaders of the world. PM Modi earns Rs 18,96,000 as his annual salary, which is way less than that of the political leaders mentioned above.
